Rick Steves (www.ricksteves.com) writes European travel guidebooks and hosts travel shows on public television and public radio.He produces over 50 guidebooks on European travel, the most popular travel series in America on public television, a weekly hour-long national public radio show, and a weekly column syndicated by the Chicago Tribune.
It was very interesting to see his experience of the town of Korcula where he didn't stay at hotel but he chose private accommodation in the local family apartment.

The origin of the Maritime Association

More than 100 years ago the joint stock company for "the construction and the exploitation of sea going ships" was established in Orebić. This revolutionary event did not happen by chance on Pelješac. The peninsula was at the time, after Trieste, the strongest maritime center on the eastern part of the Adriatic having about 60 large sailing vessels. They sailed all the world over.
